“...after showing his Shakespearean side all summer at Santa Cruz Shakespeare, its designate artistic director Charles Pasternak gets to show his suave, charismatic side here... Jewel’s production relies heavily on the solid abilities of its actors to show both the charms and comic foibles of Shaw’s characters. One such scene stealer is Allie Pratt... She and Pasternak are the heavyweights of this production.”

“...the adroit cast keeps the witty repartee moving, with special praise... most resoundingly to “chocolate cream soldier” Charles Pasternak, who walks off with the last fifteen minutes of the production.”

The Gold Rush Lawman...

September 03, 2022

…my episode of Wild West Chronicles premiered August 18, 2022 on INSP.

“...his clueless sidekick Sir Andrew Aguecheek (played by our future Artistic Director Charles Pasternak, who stole this show over and over)... Especially Charles Pasternak as the dapper, dumb-as-a-post Sir Aguecheek, determined to learn (if not understand) a few words of French, and duel with a much-better-trained opponent. Not only was the scene in which the acrobatic Pasternak leaps across pianos, romps up stairways, and pirouettes with abandon riotous, it was made even richer by the actor obviously having so much fun with his perfectly timed frolic.”
— Christina Waters

“...the comedic pair of drunken Sir Toby Belch and dim-witted fop Sir Andrew Aguecheek are hysterically portrayed by the outgoing and incoming artistic directors, Mike Ryan and Charles Pasternak (who’ll take over after the 2023 season).”

So proud to be directing this miraculous original one-woman musical for the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Click on the image for tix. You’ll be able to say you saw it at its first Fringe. That’ll mean something some day.

Undiscovered Shakespeare: King John

February 27, 2022

Had the honor of directing King John for Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s “Undiscovered Shakespeare” series. It was a wonderful experience, highlighted by my awesome cast.

King John Playbill
“Charles Pasternak is no stranger to CVRep audiences, and he is always delightful to watch. His Henry tugs at our heartstrings, as he seems to lose control of the evening from the get-go—whether it’s a debate over whether his son gets a cookie in bed, a discussion of who’s the more successful astrophysicist, or the matter of who wins his wife’s affections.”

“As always, the casting at CVREP is excellent. In their production of LIFE X 3 all four actors hold their own by giving a depth and reality to each role.”

Excited to direct this year’s Undiscovered Shakespeare for Santa Cruz Shakespeare: The Life and Death of King John. Performed on Zoom in three parts over three Thursdays in February. Each performance is paired with a Q&A with cast and guest scholar Jesse Lander (who edited the Arden 3rd!).
